Jeffrey Lynn Barnes

April 16, 2025, 68, Goldsboro —

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Lynn Barnes, known affectionately as “Rabbit,” a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many. Rabbit left us with countless memories, deep laughter, and a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in all who knew him.

Rabbit was born in Wayne County on June 21, 1957 to the late Charles Moye and Thelma McClary Barnes.

Rabbit is survived by his wife of 24 years, Amy Barnes; daughter, Jennifer Barnes; siblings, Robert Barnes, Bonnie James (Jesse), and George Andy Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.

Rabbit had a passion for the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, and golfing. Whether he was casting a line, teeing off with friends, or preparing a home-cooked meal, Rabbit brought warmth and joy to every moment. His skills in the kitchen were matched only by the laughter he inspired. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor that made everyone feel welcome and at ease.

Rabbit’s smile could light up a room, and his presence was a constant source of strength and comfort. He was always there for his loved ones—ready with a joke to lift spirits or a helping hand when it was needed most. His generosity knew no bounds, and his loyalty to friends and family was unwavering.

Rabbit will be remembered not only for the joy he brought into our lives, but for the deep and lasting relationships he built. He had many wonderful friends, and he cherished each one. Though he is no longer with us, Rabbit’s spirit lives on in the stories we share, the laughter we echo, and the love that binds us all together.

A service to celebrate Rabbit’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
