Stanley Jerome Carter, age 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Born on September 29, 1951, in Lenoir County, Stanley was the beloved son of the late Fannie Louise Ruffin and Jessie Carter.

A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Stanley lived a life marked by dedication, service, and quiet strength. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War—a period of his life he spoke of with deep pride and humility. His patriotism and courage left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Following his military service, Stanley built a meaningful career with Balfour Beatty in Goldsboro, where he was a loyal and respected employee. His commitment to excellence and his work ethic earned the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Stanley cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Sue Harvell Carter; sons, Steven Lynn Sampson and husband, Melvin and Joshua Jerome Carter; daughter, Lori Ann Catrett; step-daughter, Krystal Epps Howard and husband, Billy; brothers, Doug Carter and Michael Carter; sister, Cindy Ruffin; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly and who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to honor and celebrate Stanley’s life will follow at 12:00 noon at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Wellman officiating.

Stanley’s legacy of honor, love, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
