Goldsboro, NC – The skies over Goldsboro are set to come alive on May 3–4 as the Wings Over Wayne Air Show returns to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, promising an unforgettable weekend of aerial thrills, family fun, and community celebration.
This year’s air show is led by Ryan Stoker, a seasoned F-15E Weapons Systems Officer originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Stoker has been stationed at Seymour Johnson for seven years and is now serving as the director of the event — a role that brings both excitement and responsibility.
“As the director of the air show, I have to oversee all the parts that will bring this show together,” Stoker said. “It’s a huge effort. There are thousands of people working to make this happen.”
The Wings Over Wayne Air Show is not just a spectacle in the sky; it’s a bridge between Seymour Johnson AFB and the surrounding community. “It’s a chance for Seymour Johnson to bring the community onto base and to put our best foot forward,” Stoker said. “We want to show everyone what this base and our people are all about.”
A Star-Studded Lineup
This year’s show promises a mix of returning fan favorites and thrilling new acts. Aerobatic pilot Rob Holland and Tom Larkin with his unique mini jet are back to wow the crowd. Warbirds will return with impressive formation flying, and a 12-ship formation flight is also planned. But the highlight of the show will be the return of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who haven’t performed at Seymour Johnson since 2019.
“They’ve completely revamped their performance since then,” Stoker noted. “If you haven’t seen them lately, you’re in for something brand new.”
Static Displays and Family Fun
The show will feature 30 aircraft on static display, including modern marvels like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, alongside crowd favorites such as the A-10 Thunderbolt and the locally stationed F-15E Strike Eagle.
For families, the air show is more than just aviation. A dedicated kids’ zone will offer activities for younger visitors, and guests will even be able to climb into the cockpit of a static F-18 for photo opportunities.
Logistics and Safety First
Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. both days, and the event will go on rain or shine. Stoker emphasized the importance of working closely with local law enforcement, including Goldsboro Police Department and North Carolina Highway Patrol, to ensure smooth traffic flow and a safe experience for all attendees.
“We’ve put a lot of effort into making this an event that everyone can enjoy, from aviation enthusiasts to families just looking for a fun day out,” Stoker said.
With high-flying stunts, iconic aircraft, and a strong sense of community pride, Wings Over Wayne is poised to be one of the most exciting events of the year in Eastern North Carolina.
