United Way’s Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament Celebrates 26th Year with Community, Fun, and Fundraising

Goldsboro, N.C. — The United Way of Wayne County teed off its 26th annual Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament on Friday at Walnut Creek Country Club, bringing together local businesses, sponsors, and community members for a day of networking, fun, and philanthropy.

Organized by Savannah Lambert, the Resource Development Director for United Way of Wayne County, the tournament continues to be a highlight of the organization’s yearly calendar. “This is a great opportunity for our sponsors to fundraise, network, and make connections with other organizations that want to support United Way,” Lambert said.

The event saw an impressive turnout, with 65 tee sign sponsors, two hole-in-one sponsors, and three on-course challenge sponsors. These numbers don’t even include the annual sponsors who provide ongoing support to help make the tournament possible.

“It’s a chance for the sponsor and the community to come out here, have fun, eat some food, mingle, make connections, and of course, golf,” Lambert added.

One of the standout moments of the tournament was at Hole 9, which featured a hole-in-one prize sponsored by Mallory Dumond with Travelmation. The prize? A luxurious couples retreat at a Sandals Resort. “It was really kind of them to donate this hole-in-one prize for us,” Lambert said.

Sherry Archibald, who has been with United Way for six years and has helped plan the tournament for about a decade, also played a key role in making the event a success.

As the tournament wrapped up under sunny skies and smiles all around, participants and organizers were already looking ahead. “We’re excited to see everyone again next year,” Lambert said. The next Founder’s Cup Golf Tournament is set for the last Friday of April 2026.

It’s safe to say that after 26 years, the Founder’s Cup remains a winning tradition for Wayne County.
