On September 22, 2020, the Wayne County Public Library will join other libraries across the state in celebrating National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday and cross-country effort to assist voters in registering to vote. Communities across the country are planning to celebrate National Voter Registration Day and increase voter participation.  Thousands of national, state, and local organizations and volunteers have pledged to participate by coordinating hundreds of events, on and offline, nationwide to drive attention towards voter registration.

“We are really excited to be participating in National Voter Registration Day this year. We hope to help as many potential voters as possible to get registered, and point them in the right direction if they have questions about their registration or polling locations for the upcoming elections,” said Anna Snyder, Head of Children’s Services at WCPL.

On Tuesday, September 22, the Wayne County Public Library will join with the local chapter of the League of Women Voters to engage and register voters at the Goldsboro Library from 10am-1pm. While potential voters can register at any time, by mail or online, before October 9th to vote in the 2020 elections, the Wayne County Public Library will provide a space for patrons without regular access to the Internet to register for the first time or update their registration so they can participate in the upcoming elections.

The nonpartisan movement’s website, www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org, provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country. Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote. Nearly three million Americans have registered to vote on the holiday since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day in 2012.
