Chilly temperatures didn’t alter the recurring theme of the Carolina 1A Conference cross country season.
On Wednesday afternoon, Rosewood’s boys and girls continued their respective strong seasons in the season-ending conference championship meet held at Lakewood Country Club.
The Eagles placed five boys in the top 10 and finished with a team score of 20. Rosewood’s Billy Strickland, who finished in first place with a time of 18:58, shaved 46 seconds off his time to set a new personal record.
Carl Blevins crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 20:18, while Issac Strickland (20:24), Trenton Schillinger (20:32) and Alex Jones (21:18) were sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.
Billy Strickland, Blevins, Issac Strickland, Schillinger and Jones were named to the all-conference team.
Princeton’s Ernesto Garcia was the Bulldog’s top male runner with a time of 19 minutes, 17 seconds. Garcia’s teammate Milson Morales finished third in 19:42. Garcia and Morales also earned all-conference honors.
Mason Blust (36:20) was North Duplin’s top male runner in 21st place.
On the girls’ side, Rosewood compiled a team score of 16 to claim the girls’ meet. The Eagles also placed four girls in the top 10.
Rosewood’s Jaylee Amy won the girls’ race in 22:46 and set a new personal record by taking 49 seconds off her time. Katelyn Merritt (25:08) finished in second place, and India Young (25:11) came in third.
Carson Crane crossed the finish line in 26:23 to finish in sixth place. Amy, Merritt, Young and Crane were named to the all-conference team after the meet.
Princeton’s Margaret Parrish ran fifth in 26:11, and Parrish’s teammate Haley Emily Peterson (27:34) was ninth. Parrish and Peterson both earned all-conference honors.
Rosewood’s boys and girls both qualified to compete in the NCHSAA 1A Regionals.
