The coronavirus pandemic has presented challenges and obstacles for student learning, but one group stepped up to assist students at a Goldsboro school.
Eskabonna Henderson is the Program Director of Kinetic Minds, Inc., a local education non-profit.
His organization has been helping hundreds of students and families from Dillard Academy Charter School during the pandemic.
Thanks to an ELISS Grant – which stands for Extended Learning Integrated Student Support – funded by the CARES Act, Kinetic Minds was able to provide remote tutoring sessions before and after regular school hours as well as provide laptops for some students.
That ELISS Grant came to an end December 30th, but Henderson says Kinetic Minds will work to continue small group tutoring opportunities for Dillard Academy Charter.
Henderson says a survey revealed Dillard Academy Charter School teachers saw considerable improvement in Reading and Math scores for the students that attended the Kinetic Minds tutoring sessions for Integrated Student Support and Extended Learning.
