There was a welcome sight Friday afternoon as the sun briefly shone over Wayne County. However, that followed several days of heavy rains that have swollen local rivers and creeks.
The 7 AM update from the National Weather Service shows the Neuse River near Goldsboro is currently at approximately 22-feet, in “Moderate Flood Stage.” The river is expected to continue rising to a crest of nearly 23-feet over the next day or so. A Flood Warning remains in effect for Wayne County.
The flooding has already impacted some roads and structures across the area. NCDOT crews were closing down water-covered roads across the county on Friday.
