There’s plenty of vaccine to go around, and Wayne County leaders want to increase the number of residents immunized against the coronavirus.

At this week’s county board meeting, County Manager Craig Honeycutt reminded the COVID-19 vaccine is still available through the Wayne County Health Department.

Honeycutt urged residents to consider getting vaccinated and says Wayne County is nowhere near the 70% range of vaccinated adults that the U.S. is aiming for.

Commissioner Antonio Williams also urged the county to reach out to the immigrant and Spanish-speaking populations in Wayne County’s agriculture community to hopefully increase awareness of the COVID vaccine.

According to Wednesday’s figures from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, 39,187 people in Wayne County had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine representing 32% of the county’s population.  36,163 individuals have been fully vaccinated representing 29% of Wayne County’s population.
