Track And Field: Eastern Wayne’s Ta’Honny Exum Wins State Title In Shot Put

Runners and jumpers competed in their respective events for individual state titles in the N.C. High School Athletic Association outdoor track and field state championships this weekend held at Truist Stadium on the campus of N.C. A&T State University.

Eastern Wayne’s Ta’Honny Exum won the state title in shot put. The junior heaved the shot put 39 feet, 1.50 inches.

Exum’s teammate Jaikwez Woresly finished in fourth place in the boy’s shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 09.00 inches. Jada Hamilton came in eighth place in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 06.50 inches.

Amiyah Bryant had a 14th place finish in the girls’ 100-meter dash. The Warriors also finished in ninth place in the girls’ 4×100 meter relay.

Southern Wayne’s Tayvon Callahan earned a third-place spot on the podium in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles. Callahan completed his race with a time of 14.80.

Callahan also had a fifth-place finish in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles.

Taniyah Glaspie placed fourth in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59. Glaspie also ended up in seventh in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 26.02.

Jerome Moore placed 14th in the boys’ 100-meter dash.

C.B. Aycock’s top placer was Katlyn Parrish, who took seventh in the shot put (34-06.50).

The Golden Falcons finished 11th in the boys’ 4×100 meter relay.

In the 1A state championship meet, Princeton’s Sydney Norris finished third overall in the pole vault (7-06.00), while Bryant Keokanya finished state runner-up in the triple jump (44-01.75) and fourth in the long jump (20-07.00)

Morgan Fields, Julianna Canterbury, Jillian Malham, Brook Connolly, Alaina Johnson, Jacob Jones, and Noah Westbrook all had strong showings for the Bulldogs.

Rosewood’s Joshua Faison was the Eagles’ top finisher. Faison had an eighth-place finish in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles (44.34).
