WCPS “Showcase Of Excellence” To Open At Berkeley Mall

Berkeley Mall and Wayne County Public Schools have partnered to present a “Showcase of Excellence,” which will present artwork and other content produced by WCPS students for the public to enjoy throughout the year. Two new display boards were recently installed in the mall between Bath & Body Works and the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base mural. A ribbon cutting event will be held on Friday, August 20 at noon to officially welcome the student showcase.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to display the talents and abilities of our students year-round,” states Christy White, Title IV Enrichment Facilitator. “We believe the display will contribute to the beautification of our community mall and demonstrate how much our students are able to learn and accomplish.”

Featured content will be presented on a rotating basis from among all WCPS schools. The first exhibits will highlight work created by students attending the WCPS Summer Scholars program.

Coordinators for the WCPS “Showcase of Excellence” include: Rachel Mackey, Berkeley Mall Property Manager; Beverly Boltinhouse, WCPS Career & Technical Education Director; Andrew Bass, WCPS Math Coordinator; and Christy White, WCPS Title IV Enrichment Facilitator. It is worth noting that the two display units were completely produced by WCPS students. Charles B. Aycock High Project Lead the Way students designed the units under the instruction of Paul Casey. They were constructed and mounted by Construction students at Southern Wayne High School under the instruction of John Gerken and Hugh Coley, Jr.
