The push continues to get all eligible Wayne County residents inoculated against the coronavirus.

At this week’s Goldsboro City Council meeting, City Manager Tim Salmon provided a brief warning saying there is still “rampant” spread of COVID in the community.

Councilman Bill Broadaway urged residents to get the shot, especially since it was up to adults to help protect those 12 and under who are not eleigible to receive the vaccine..

As COVID cases surge statewide and in Wayne County, Commissioner Freeman Hardison again urged caution and vaccination at this week’s Wayne County Board meeting.

The COVID-19 vaccine is available at the Wayne County Health Department, and appointments are available at www.waynegov.com/vaccine. Residents who receive the first dose of their vaccine are eligible to receive a $100 gift card, and anyone who drives someone to receive their vaccine can receive $25.

According to Thursday’s figures from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, 52,635 people have been vaccinated with at least one dose in Wayne County.  That represents 43% of the county’s population.  46,700 people have been fully vaccinated, which is just 38% of Wayne County’s population.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to increase in Wayne County, with 653 new cases reported in the last 14 days.
