Martin Community College expanded its programs and partnerships on February 16, 2022, when MCC President Wesley Beddard signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Mount Olive President Dr. H. Edward Croom. The agreement allows MCC students, in specific degree programs, to seamlessly transfer their degree credits to UMO and apply them toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree within about four more semesters.

The newly completed articulation provides for smooth transitions between the following programs:

• Early Childhood (B-K) Licensure AAS to BS in Early Childhood Education (B-K) & Licensure
• Early Childhood General Non-Licensure AAS to BS in Early Childhood Education (B-K)
• Business Administration AAS to Bachelor of Business Administration
• Business Administration AAS to BS in Business Management
• Accounting AAS to BS Business Administration in Accounting
• Equine Technology AAS to BA in Agribusiness
• Information Technology AAS to BS in Computer Information Systems

Sequencing guides and pathways between the two institutions are being created to assist with advising students as they journey towards completing their education goals in each of these areas.

During the ceremony, MCC’s Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Tabitha Miller noted that three additional MCC programs, Associate in Arts Teacher Prep, Associate in Science Teacher Prep, and Criminal Justice Technology, are in the process of finalization for similar articulation guides with UMO.

Upon signing the documents, Dr. Croom noted that he was pleased with the new partnership with MCC and happy to be removing barriers for students trying to earn bachelor’s degrees.

President Beddard stated, “This agreement with the University of Mount Olive is a key component of our commitment to provide opportunities for students in our region to achieve their educational and career goals. As a graduate and former employee of UMO, I know firsthand that their values and commitment to student success are very much in line with what we strive to do daily at MCC.”

Beddard added, “I want to thank the faculty and instructional administrators at both institutions for their cooperative efforts over the last year to make this agreement possible. We look forward to working in partnership with the University of Mount Olive to develop even more cooperative programs to better serve the students in eastern North Carolina.”
