Starting tomorrow, the NCDOT says expect delays if you are driving in Wilson County. Officials say both directions of N.C. 42 east of U .S. 301 are scheduled to close beginning at 7 p.m.

Construction crews will be installing a larger-diameter drainage pipe underneath the pavement. A detour will send motorists along Varnell Road, Weaver Road and U.S. 301. The closure is expected to end by 6 a.m. April 25, if the weather cooperates.

The pipe upgrade is part of a larger contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation to add a left-turn lane on N.C. 42 for westbound traffic going to the Wilson County landfill. The turn-lane will be added this summer.
