A total of 17 positive cases are on record as of April 4, 2022 in all Wayne County Public Schools. The Executive Director of Community Engagement and Student & Family Support, Ken Derksen, presented the informal update at the monthly meeting of the Wayne County Board of Education on May 2, 2022.

Derksen said that NCDHHS guidance for schools has not changed and still recommends that masks remain optional in schools. The Board unanimously approved to continue a masks optional policy.
