As a result of the continuing investigation, Tony Paul Young has been identified as the person that shot and killed Cleveland Lavon Ward.

On 6/22/2022, a warrant was obtained for the arrest of Mr. Young on an open count of murder. On 6/26/2022 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Tony Paul Young was arrested by members of the Wayne County ACE team and Goldsboro Police Department’s VICE unit in the 1300 block of Maple St. after a short foot chase.

Mr. Young was taken before the Wayne County Magistrate who ordered Mr. Young to be held without bond. Young’s first appearance is set for 6/27/2022 in District Court.
