Ginger Moore, Wayne County human resources director, provided an update on the Wayne County Summer Youth Employment Program. Ginger thanked the program coordinator, Alicia Pierce, for taking the program and molding it for Wayne County.
Our program participants were present for the meeting and each of them introduced themselves to the Commissioners.
Commissioner Antonio Williams thanked the staff and the Board for getting this project off the ground. “You are future leaders,” said Commissioner Williams.
Chairman Joe Daughtery thanked Commissioner Williams for this idea. “This is what this was all about,” said Chairman Daughtery. “We wanted to offer something for our students to come and get involved in local government to see what it’s all about.”
Alicia Pierce, program coordinator, explained what the interns have been participating in throughout the summer. Training for interns has included resume building, workplace etiquette, college prep, and financial literacy.
“These young people are the future,” said Vice-Chairman Wayne Aycock. “They are learning first hand about government.”
