High Speed Pursuit Ends in Johnston County

A Goldsboro man was arrested after a high-speed chase on US 70 Wednesday morning.

According to Goldsboro Police, at approximately 12:35 a.m., officers with Goldsboro Police Department’s B-Shift Patrol were in the area of the 800 block of US 70 E when they observed a gray SUV. Officers had been on the lookout for the vehicle. It had been reported stolen and police believed the driver was Goldsboro resident Fuquan Banks. Police already had a warrant for his arresat.

Police initiated a traffic stop, the driver failed to pull over, and an ensuing vehicle pursuit began. The pursuit quickly moved to US 70 W and reached speeds in excess of 100 mph at certain times. The pursuit continued westbound on US 70 out of Wayne County and into Johnston County. Pursuing officers from the Goldsboro Police Department requested assistance from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

The NCSHP and Johnston County Sherriff’s Office deployed stop sticks during the pursuit and were successful in disabling several tires on the vehicle. The pursuit ended in the 4400 block of Buffalo Road in Selma, when the vehicle came to rest in a ditch. The driver was subsequently taken into custody by deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Goldsboro Police Department without further incident. The driver was positively identified as Fuquan Abdul Raseem Banks of Goldsboro.

There were no other vehicle accidents associated with the pursuit and no injuries reported.

Fuquan Banks was charged with the following offenses related to the pursuit by the Goldsboro Police Department:

Felony Flee to Elude Arrest

Driving While Licensed Revoked

Careless & Reckless Driving

Stop Sign Violation

In addition to the charges taken out by the Goldsboro Police Department, the following warrants were served on the Mr. Banks:

            OFA – Driving While Impaired

            OFA – Civil Revocation of Driver’s License

            OFA – Discharge Firearm in City Limits

            OFA – Fictitious Info to Officer

            OFA – Failure to Wear Seatbelt

Mr. Banks was given a culminative secured bond of $17,500 for the charges related to the pursuit and the orders for arrest. He has a court appearance scheduled for April 3, 2023.
