If your home was damaged by Hurricanes Matthew or Florence you might be able to get help, but you have to hurry.
Charles Wright of the Goldsboro/Wayne County Homeowners Coalition has been working the phones to help marginalized citizens whose homes were damaged.
“In some cases people thought they couldn’t get help if they owned a mobile home, or if they rented a lot.” Help is available according to Wright. He figures there might be more than 100 homeowners who need assistance but who won’t be helped in time.
A deadline is rapidly approaching for applications for the ReBuild NC Homeowner Recovery program. Wright and other volunteers with the group Rebuilding Broken Homes have scheduled meetings with homeowners each of the next Thursdays (4/6 and 4/13) to complete grant applications. Wright notes that some people need help with temporary housing and with advice about tax bills. He has been working with legal aid offices to get people advice. Some retailers have donated furniture to families moving into new homes under the federal program.
Wright can be contacted at (919) 273-2099.
