Roger Keith Smith, 70, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Wayne UNC Healthcare. He was born and raised in Wayne County to the late John Roger Smith and Viola Carter Smith on June 14, 1952.

Roger retired with over 30 years of service from Southco Distributing in Goldsboro. Having grown up on the family farm, Roger had a great love for nature and all the critters that he came in contact with. He always found joy in tinkering in the yard or working with his chickens.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at his home on Vinson Road. Roger will be remembered in a private service for the family.

Roger is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay M. Smith; son, Sam Smith, and wife, Ashley; sisters-in-law, Pat Smith, Ann Smith, and Ramona Barbour; niece, LuJene Smith Merritt, and husband, Buddy; nephew, Beaux Bass; and a great nephew, Chris Merritt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Paul Smith; brothers, Ray Smith, John Wayne “Bud” Smith, and Ken Smith; sister, Sandra Smith Sherman; and niece, Angie Sherman Reiman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the charity of one’s choice.
