William Joseph Britt

William Joseph Britt

May 25, 2023, 69, Goldsboro –

William Joseph Britt, 69, passed away at Helping Hands Assisted Living on Thursday, May 25, 2023. William was born in Wayne County to the late William Harvey Britt and Julia Wiggins Britt.

In August of 1974, William married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Lancaster Britt. William and Lynn were the example of two becoming one and they kept their promises to each other, through sickness and in health. They were blessed with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. They made quite the couple and inspired many others as to how marriage should be.

William owned and operated Britt Equipment Company and William J Britt Farm. He also worked as a project manager for G&M Sales. William could accomplish almost anything he put his mind to. He was a take-charge, determined man who many admired. He had a strong work ethic, but work did not get in the way of supporting his children in their endeavors. William coached his boys in baseball and basketball and was their biggest fan. For his daughter, he was her sound manager and was there to make sure all went perfectly. His sugar babies (his granddaughters) and his teddy bear (grandson) were the apples of his eye.

William’s determination and drive were tested to the utmost when he suffered a stroke. William really showed his strong faith in God. He always believed he would be completely healed and he never gave up. In the Book of Hebrews, contained in the New Testament of the Bible, faith is described as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” The text goes on to describe those who had shown great faith and presents this conclusion, “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance…” William had faith and believed in the goodness of God. He may not have received the healing he had wanted, but he has now received exactly what he was promised. He is completely healed and rejoicing like never before.

William was a member of Garris Chapel Church. He served as the Council Chairman, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Member. He also assisted in the sound and media room. William sought to serve the Lord with all he had for as long as he could.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate William’s life on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 6:00 pm at Garris Chapel Church. Visitation will follow the service in the church Family Life Center.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to their church family, Garris Chapel Church. The church family has surrounded them with love, support, meals, compassion, and more offerings of kindness than can be counted over the last 15 years. They could not have done this without you. This church has been the hands and feet of Christ.
