Irene Rose Croom, 75, passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Monday, May 29, 2023. Born in Ahoskie, NC on October 7, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Sears and Florice Reid Sears.

Irene was a faithful member of Blended Fellowship, where she could be found volunteering often. Irene had a special love for the Deaf community all over North Carolina. She loved volunteering at Camp Dogwood and with the Lion’s Club. She was a member of the Kinston Deaf Club for 12 years. Those who knew Irene knew her special love for cats. Irene will be remembered as a loving member of the Deaf community.

A memorial service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held on June 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Blended Fellowship with Pastor Doug Seymour presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Irene is survived by her son, Westley Sears; grandchildren, Mayliyah Sears and Layla Sears; nephew, Rudy Croom and special friend, Cameron Wade.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Croom.
