Goldsboro Juneteenth Celebration Scheduled for June 17

The Hub in Downtown Goldsboro will come alive with music, food, rides, and entertainment as Goldsboro hosts its third celebration of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17th.

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America.

This year’s celebration begins Friday night, June 16th with a forum at the Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro, NC entitled “Leaving Your Mark – Black Visionaries.” This year 92.7 JAMZ is continuing the goal of highlighting those from the community who have left an unforgettable mark. Black visionaries in various industries and leadership. Our hope is to shine a light on these men and women and the angle they have taken to succeed. This year’s event panelists include Keynote- Jarran Reed, Actor- Ticarus Bunch, TikTok Star- Shakyarra Jones, GHS Basketball Star- Takorrie Faison, Radio Personality/Music Producer- Averil Williams, and Actress/Songstress/Attorney- Yolanda Rabun.

These panelists have worked in industries that some people dream of. The goal of this panel is to share gems, tips, and advice to help YOU boost confidence and realize that “There is GOLD in GOLDsboro!” says Brandi Matthews.

Taking a look inside the various backgrounds of these men and women could serve as a stepping stone into your journey!

The celebration at The Hub begins at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 18th with over 30 vendors on hand offering clothing, fashion, bouncy houses, and 5 food trucks that will offer plenty of “eats” including Bar-B-Que, doughnuts, wings, drinks, and more.

On stage will be nationally known recording artist, Ricco Barrino.

Ricco Barrino was born in High Point, NC. He began his music career singing at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where his family members taught him how to lead a choir. His music is CROSS GENERATIONAL. The compositions and lyrics are fun, free-flowing, and memorable.

Barrino says, “My music is a gumbo of new school and old school music with aggressive wordplay using old school melodies to formulate what I call Rock Soul. My music is more creative yet controlled with quality and the edginess of radio mainstream.” Barrino burst on the scene in 2007 when he released the debut single, “Bubble Gum”, which led to a recording deal with TI’s Grand Hustle Records in 2008.

Also performing will be GHS ShowStoppers, AAG Roc. Tim Pounds, Victoria Ruffin-Atkins, J. Renew, Tim Dortch, Crossdatracks KB, local dance group Triple D, Divine 9, Deeper Life Ministries and DJ C-Rai.
