Jean Barrow Newsome

Jean Barrow Newsome

June 20, 2023, 87, Goldsboro –

Jean Barrow Newsome peacefully departed this life and joyously entered her eternal reward on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. She was born on September 30, 1935, to the late Samuel and Nola Head Barrow. She was married to the late Eddis Lamont Newsome.

For many years, Ed and Jean operated the family business, Ed Newsome’s Hardwood Flooring in Wilmington, NC. She became really involved in her church, Grace Baptist Church, while in Wilmington. She was more than a member. She sought to use her gifts and talents for the Lord for as long as she could.

Jean was talented in so many ways. She had an immaculate house and yard she worked really hard to maintain. Everything was kept pristine and exceptional. That was her style and she dressed the part as well. She had an incredible knack for choosing the most beautiful pieces to wear with stunning jewelry. Her appearance meant a lot to her and she carried herself as such. Beauty filled her inside and out. Returning to Goldsboro after a time of declining health, Jean was filled with visits and care from her family and dear friends. It was her joy to be surrounded by those she loved so much.

If you were at Jean’s house, you knew there would be a delicious meal and you would never leave hungry. She loved taking care of others and did it all with grace and dignity. Jean was a beloved friend. But she was most proud to be a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a treasure and her memory will continue to carry on.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Jean’s life at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Mike Parks officiating. Entombment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Wayne Memorial Park.

Jean is survived by her son, Monty Newsome, and wife, Joani of Wilmington; grandchildren, Mollie Parker Newsome and Lynn Farrow; great-grandchild, Morgan Cribb; sister, Myrtle Heath of Kinston; and brother, Ronald Barrow of Snow Hill. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie N. Daniels; sisters, Bertha Mae Head, Joyce Taylor, and Evangeline Naylor; and brothers, Hodges Barrow, Raeford Barrow, Wiley Barrow, and Desmond Barrow.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to her friends and caregivers, Janice Jones and Felescia Rochel. They would also like to recognize the family that would always visit and checks on Jean: Gail Barnes, Kim Nye, and Donna Lynn Lawhorn. Your love and kindness towards Jean will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gentiva Hospice, 2309 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
