Kay Barwick Odom passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, in the early morning hours while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was 79.

Kay was a native of Mount Olive but because of her love of the coastal area, she had resided in Stella, N.C. in recent years.

As a young lady, she was employed at Albert’s Soda Grill.  Other employment included National Spinning at Warsaw, followed by AP Parts in Goldsboro from where she retired.

Kay is survived by four of her five children, Kenneth W. “K.B.” Bennett and wife, Lisa, of Mount Olive, Terrie Kay Lassiter and husband, David, of Princeton, Barry Ray Bennett and fiance, Shana Flood, of Princeton, and Laurie Ann Owens of Eureka; her twin sister, Faye B. King and husband, Johnny, of Warsaw; grandchildren, Tonya Ann Ginevan, Crystal Bennett, Dustin Bennett, Zachary Wade McCarty,  Dylan Kruse McCarty, Josie Rae Highsmith, and Barron Keith Bennett; and nine great-grandchildren.   Also surviving is Stella Kaye, her beloved doggie companion.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Dean Bennett; her parents, Wade and Ruby Pate Barwick; a sister, Joyce B. Barnette; and her special companion, Robert Manning.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 28, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and will be officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Lassiter.  Following the service, there will be a time of visitation with the family.  Burial will be Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
