Arwilda Rouse Pate

Arwilda Rouse Pate

July 12, 2023, 89, Calypso —

Mrs. Arwilda Rouse Pate, after having lived a good, Godly life of 89 years, quietly left the confines of her cozy, country home to be with the Lord forevermore.  Her departure came on Wednesday (July 12, 2023) early evening, just briefly after an afternoon of many visitors and well-wishers had gone to their respective homes.

A native of the Calypso area, she had been a Beautancus area resident for most of her adult life.  Mrs. Pate was a long-time, faithful member of Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, and it was there that she and her late husband were honored by having a Sunday school class bear their names, “the Edison and Arwilda Pate Sunday School Class,”  for their untiring dedication in teaching the class for many years.

While her loved ones left behind will miss her immensely, they are also joyful in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Edison Pate, and they are enjoying the splendors of heaven.  She has also joined her parents, Claude and Myrtle Pickett Rouse, in eternal bliss.

Mrs. Pate is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail P. and Dennis Knowles of Rose Hill; a granddaughter and husband, Samantha K. and Bradley Kennedy of Chinquapin; a great-granddaughter, Sophie Wren Kennedy of Chinquapin; a sister, Claudette R. Shelton of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Loranda “Randy” and Elizabeth Rouse of Calypso; several nieces and nephews.

A service to remember the life of Mrs. Arwilda Pate will be Sunday, July 16, at 3 p.m. at Bear Marsh Church and will be officiated by the Rev. E. C. Mattocks and the Rev. Paul Rose.  A time of visitation will follow the service.
