Wayne County Post 11 got one step closer to the North Carolina American Legion state tournament with a 5-0 win over Kinston Post 43 on Tuesday night.
Wyatt Lassiter’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth gave Wayne County a 2-0 lead. Lane McLean added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.
Cameron Aycock’s RBI double in the home half of the sixth inning stretch Post 11’s advantage to 4-0. Aycock later scored on a passed ball to cap Wayne County’s scoring.
Post 11 (29-6) can clinch a berth in the state tournament with a win tonight over Post 43 in Kinston. The North Carolina American Legion state tournament is July 25-29 at Jim Perry Stadium on the campus of Campbell University.
