John Shreves passed away at UNC Lenoir on Saturday, July 22, 2023. John was born in Sistersville, WV to the late Anne Gifford. For over 47 years, he was married to the love of his life, Wendy Shreves.

John worked hard his entire life and was a retired valve tech. He always wanted to make sure his family was provided for and never went without. He was not only a good provider, but he loved his children and grandchildren deeply. His true love, the one he cared for and always wanted to make sure was okay, was his beloved wife, Wendy. They were quite the couple and spent many years side by side through health issues and whatever life has thrown their way.

Other than the family, John’s passion was sports. He played softball and baseball, assuming the position of pitcher for many years. He loved to get out and play with his kids in almost any sport. He enjoyed golf and fishing for a little relaxation. John was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. It was always a good day when his team won. He made sure to call his son to remind him of who the real winners were anytime there was a good win.

John and Wendy spent the last few years in La Grange and formed quite a community. They loved and were loved by so many and are grateful for the relationships that have been formed. John’s faith was an important part of his journey and was key in many of the relationships in town. Through all he faced, he knew he was cared for and loved by God.

John is survived by his wife, Wendy Shreves; children, Kay Wachs (Arthur), Shelby Keller (Tim), Aaron Shreves (Kelli), and Sean Shreves (Jennifer); grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Sydney, Shalyn, T.J., Dylan, Aiden, Dominick, Gabby, Hannah, and Harleigh; as well as 2 great-grandchildren.
