Linda Warrick Harris

Linda Warrick Harris

July 28, 2023, 81, Goldsboro —

Linda Warrick Harris, 81, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Friday, July 28, 2023. Linda was born in Wayne County to the late Dr. Luby Warrick and Ina Stevens Warrick of Grantham on February 22, 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill Harris; and her brothers and sister-in-law, George Albert Warrick and Eugene Warrick and wife, Barbara.

Education was one of Linda’s many passions. She graduated from Grantham High School and attended two years at Mars Hill College and graduated from Atlantic Christian College. Her love for education led her to a career teaching with the Wayne County Public School System for 35 years, retiring at Meadow Lane Elementary. Linda was a member of the NC Retired School Personnel and the Fidelis Omicron of Alpha Delta Kappa.

Linda worshiped and served her Lord and Savior in many ways. At Adamsville Baptist Church, where she was a member for 40+ years, she shared her love for music by singing in the choir. She also shared her love of education by teaching Sunday School, Awana, and Vacation Bible School, and through serving on various committees.

Linda was a friend to everyone. She enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know them. In her retirement, she worked for American Greetings, and you would often find her at the drug store sorting cards or talking with a friend. She also served in her community delivering food with Meals on Wheels, where she was able to care for the people on “Route K” and of course, make lots of new friends.

While Linda loved all animals, she held a special place in her heart for cats. It was important to her to rescue, feed, rehome, and neuter or spay as many in Goldsboro’s feline community as possible. Hundreds (yes, hundreds) of cats have benefited from her love and compassion.

Linda held the importance of family close in her heart. In her married life, she spent Friday nights and holidays at her mother’s house in Grantham with her daughters, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Linda cherished her husband, Bill, and dearly loved his family, too.

Linda is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Kevin Lange of Apex and Julie and Tracey Barker of Holly Springs; grandchildren, Morgan Lee Barker and Blakely B. Baker (Dylan); sister, Betty Best of Grantham; sister-in-law, Janet B. Warrick, and her nine sweet kitties.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in the fellowship hall at Falling Creek Baptist Church. Following the visitation, a service celebrating Linda’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
