Roy Douglas Kennedy, a resident of Faison, passed away in the early evening of Sunday, August 6, 2023.  He was 80 years old.

Doug was a graduate of North Duplin High School with the class of 1961.  Being the standout baseball player that he was, he attended Frederick College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington on baseball scholarships.

Doug has been employed with C. P.  Ellis Produce Co. and he had served with the N. C. National Guard.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife, Dannie Ellis Kennedy, of the home; three daughters and their husbands, Angie K. and Tom Gibson of Goldsboro, Tara K. and Lester Myers of Mount Olive, and Courtney K. and Bret Brown of Kenansville; four grandchildren, Christian Gibson and fiancee, Brianna Byrd, Kendall Myers, Emma Brown, and Bennett Brown; two sisters and their husbands, Randy K. and Bobby Holland of Mount Olive, and Pat H. and Joe Miriello of Dunn; and his caregiver and long-time close friend, Carl Faison of Faison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Byrd Kennedy and Hazel Taylor Kennedy; and a sister, Terry K. Columbus.

A service in which to remember the life of Doug Kennedy will be Thursday, August 10, at 6:00 p.m. at Faison Presbyterian Church and will be officiated by Pastor Marvin Mervin and the Rev. Buck Grady.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family welcomes friends and relatives to the residence, 707 Soloman Street, Faison, N.C. on Wednesday, August 9, between 6 and 8 p.m.
