Albert John “A.J.” Herring

Albert John “A.J.” Herring, 91, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wayne County on February 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Lebron Lloyd Herring and Swannie B. Garris Herring.

In addition to his parents, A.J. was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-two years, Annie Laura Adams Herring; brothers, Lebron Harvey Herring and James Selby Herring; and sister, Mary Grace Herring.

A.J. is survived by his nieces, Tammy Munoz (David), Tracy Little, and Tonya Adams; grand-nephews, Ben Munoz and Ryne Herring (Jessica); great-grand-nieces, Mera Munoz, Addison Herring, and Avery Herring; brothers, Travis Herring and Arthur Herring; sister, Barbara Price; and sisters-in-law, Sue Adams and Pansy Herring.

A.J. proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

A.J. retired from Gallaher Ltd. Tobacco Company. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Daniels Chapel Church.

A service to celebrate A.J.’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Rose officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment with military honors will be at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Maria Sanchez for the loving care she has provided in the last year and a half. The family would also like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Crystal Sutton, for their compassionate care in A.J.’s final days.
