On July 19 at approximately 10:16 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Day Circle. Officers located a 17-year-old male suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment.
The victim was subsequently taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment of the gunshot wound. The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau responded to the scene and began an investigation.
On Aug. 10, warrants were secured against Elton Barnes Jr., 50, of Goldsboro relating to this case. Barnes was charged with one count of Assault With A Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and one count of Possession of A Firearm by A Convicted Felon. Barnes was arrested on Aug. 16 by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in the 1900 block of U.S. Hwy 117 S. Barnes was transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office where he was served with his warrants. He received a total bond of $160,000 secured.
Barnes’ next appearance in court is scheduled for Aug. 30.
