Marie Howell Talton, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.  Marie was born in Johnston County on September 12, 1940, to the late Needham Nelson Howell and Beulah Braswell Howell.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Talton, and a brother, Walter Landis Howell.

Marie was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord.  She was a dedicated member of  Stevens Chapel Baptist Church.  She sang in the choir and provided many meals for different occasions and needs that arose in the church.

Marie was hard-working and farmed alongside her husband, Bill all while raising her family and taking care of their needs.

She was a wonderful cook, especially known for her carrot cakes and chicken pastry.  Marie was an excellent seamstress and was known for her beautiful quilting.  She was adamant about always being on time.  She loved music, especially anything by Elvis.   She also loved to travel.

Most important was her immeasurable love for her family.  Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.

She is survived by sons:  Bobby Talton and Wayne Talton (Lori); daughters, Janet Martin (Edward) and Dianne Green (Dave); grandchildren, Trey Martin (Anna), Mirinda Phillips (Matt), Dustin Talton (Val), Landon Talton (Becca), Holden Talton, Jason Leach, Jenny Green, Paige Green, and Will Green; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Marie Rose, Rhett Martin Phillips, and Callie Marie Talton; brother, Eugene Howell; sister, Alicia Johnson; sister-in-law, Louise Talton Sauls.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations with the Reverend Marvin Ownley and Reverend Vernon Braswell officiating.  A Private Committal will follow in the Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home and Cremation on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
