As Hurricane Idalia approaches North Carolina and is expected to impact the state on Wednesday and Thursday, Wayne County Public Schools has canceled all after-school events for Thursday.

Wayne County Public Schools issued the following statement on Tuesday evening,“Due to the threat of tropical storm conditions being forecast later this week, all after-school activities and athletic programs have been canceled for this Thursday, August 31. The school district is closely monitoring the weather forecasts for our area and will remain in close communication with local emergency management officials throughout this weather event.
