Rachel McCullen Poole, 85, of Goldsboro passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on September 2, 2023. She has gone to be with her Lord in Heaven.

Rachel was born in Sampson County in 1938. She was the daughter of the late Leo McCullen and Kizzie Bass McCullen. She was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church of Goldsboro. Rachel loved her Lord, her church, and her friends and neighbors. They would always send cards every week, as well as bring food and ice cream to her.

Rachel was a beautician and worked 65 years before she had to retire because of her health. She loved her work and her customers. She loved just talking to them while doing their hair.

A service to celebrate Rachel’s life will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 1:30 pm at Love Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend George Fox presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 12:30 until 1:30. Services will conclude at Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, NC.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Tammy Sue Stokes, and husband, Donald of Goldsboro; stepdaughter, Tammy Flynn, and husband, Donnie of Raleigh, and Terry Akamatsu of Foley, AL; grandson, Christopher Stokes and wife, Carrie; great-grandson, Bryson Stokes; and nephew, Joey McCullen.

In addition to her parents, Rachel is preceded in death by her brother, Graham McCullen, and sister, Lee Zonnie Edwards.
