September 18, 2023, 86, Goldsboro —

1st Sgt. Alfonzo Manley Sr., Army, (Ret.), 86, departed this walk of life Monday, September 18, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Homegoing service will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at noon at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro with burial to follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with full military honors. Viewing will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m. with Masonic Rites beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service.

He was born May 10, 1937, to the late Robert Boyette, Sr., and the late Thelma Manley Brown in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

Alfonzo was reared in Wayne County and attended the Wayne County public schools. Alfonzo received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Mount Olive College. He enlisted in the United States Army and served 22 years. During his years with the military, Alfonzo earned several ribbons, awards, and commendations such as The National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), and Field Artillery Missile Award. He taught ROTC at Charles B. Aycock High School for 16 years.

Alfonzo was a member of the Best Grove MB Church where he attended faithfully for many years. Alfonzo was a member of the Best Grove Masonic Lodge # 392. Alfonzo served as a past Potentant of The Mizpah Temple #66; He was a member of the CA Whitehead Consistory; Alfonzo was a 33rd Degree Mason.

Alfonzo loved his family and leaves to cherish his memory to his wife; Rebecca S. Manley of more than 64 years, a son; Alfonzo Manley, Jr., two daughters; Patricia Manley Thompson and Teresa Manley Cox(Jesse-deceased), grandchildren; Richard R. Harris III, Raymond Earl Parker, Jr., Alexander Thompson, Patric Thompson and Jasmin Thompson and great-grandchildren; Natyjaih Jones, Raymond E. Parker III, and Jaylah Harris, brothers; Albert Brown and John Wesley Brown, two sisters; JoAnn Bizzell (Larry), Brenda Boyette-Mallory (Robert) and a host of other relatives and friends.
