Romlus Haywood Mason Jr.

September 30, 2023, 92, Goldsboro —

Romlus Haywood Mason Jr. answered the Master’s call to leave this world behind and enter into eternal rest on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Ayden North Carolina February 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Romlus Mason Sr and Ethel Jackson Mason. In addition to his parents, RH was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Long and Annabelle Balance.

RH proudly served his country in the United States Navy and worked for the North Carolina DOC as a probation officer for over 30 years.

RH was very good with his hands and showed off his talent with his woodworking. Along with woodworking, he had a love for a beautiful yard. He loved yard work and riding his lawn mower.

He was an avid lover of sports, especially football. He supported the children in his community by attending various football games.

RH had no greater love than that of his Savior and his beloved wife and family. He proudly served as the oldest deacon at Rosewood First Baptist Church for many years. He always enjoyed spending time with his family. He was proud of his legacy of 5 generations of love and togetherness. Family values were not just something he talked about, it was what he lived by. He believed in leading by example.

His love and memory will forever linger in the heart of his beloved bride 71 years, Mary Mason, formerly of Kinston, North Carolina, with whom he would travel 6 days from California (where he was stationed in the Navy) to spend 1 day with.

He is also survived by his daughter, Roma Wilder; sons, Romlus Haywood Mason III (Rom) and Randall Mason (wife, Cristie); grandchildren, Christina Daniels, Romlus Mason IV, Joshua Wilder, Jeremy Mason, Rebecca Kuhnel, Scott Mason, and Nicole Mason; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother James Mason (Ruth)

A service to celebrate RH Mason’s life will be held Monday, October 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Rosewood First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Lipp and Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 4 PM to 6 PM. Burial will be held following the service at Evergreen Cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home.
