Barbara Stafford Johnson, age 86, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Wilbert Leon Stafford, Sr. and the late Mildred Lee Lawhorn Stafford and wife of the late Robert Ray Johnson, Sr. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Bradley Johnson, a brother, Leon Stafford, Jr., and a sister, Linda Carter. Barbara was retired from the Wayne County Public School System and was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church. 

A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12th at 10:00 AM with Rev. Sam Barfield officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 900 AM until 10:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Robert Ray “Robbie” Johnson, Jr. and wife, Sue, Lee Leon Johnson and wife, Mollie, Mark Alan Johnson and wife, Brenda; a brother, Thomas William Stafford; a grandson, Zachary Adam Johnson; and special friends, Sam Brady, Susie & Woody Woodward, and Bobby & Jo Heath.

In lieu of flowers, it was Barbara’s wish that you plant a tree in memory of a loved one.
