Wayne County Public Library’s Learning Studio Resource Center officially opened on Oct.12, with a ribbon cutting by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
Available for all library cardholders to borrow, this collection of materials is designed to support children with learning differences such as Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder, and more.
The resource center contains items that focus on handwriting, reading comprehension, phonics, math, sensory needs, and communication. Items are available to borrow for three weeks to allow students to see if the item will fit their particular needs.
“We are beyond thrilled to launch this collection,” said project manager, Maegen Wilson. “From games to adaptable equipment, to other supports, this collection will allow parents, teachers, and our community to explore what resources will offer their child the best avenue of assistance. Additionally, children will be able to see themselves reflected in the collection through books celebrating their differences and highlighting a variety of successful people with learning differences.”
In partnership with Wayne County Public Schools’ Exceptional Children’s Department, this resource collection is just one part of the Learning Studio Project which also consists of an online resource guide and training opportunities for parents, teachers, and community members.
