Ronald G. McCoy

November 23, 2023, 67, Dudley —

Ronald G. McCoy was born on December 14, 1955, in Mount Olive, North Carolina to the late Claudie McCoy and Ina Armwood. Ronald relocated to Heaven’s Court on November 23, 2023, from UNC Health Hospital in Goldsboro.

Ronald, affectionately known as Ronnie, spent his childhood years living in Mt. Olive prior to relocating to Elizabeth, New Jersey in the early 1960s. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974. After high school, Ronnie completed the Auto Technology Certificate Program at Lincoln Technical Institute.

It was there in Elizabeth, NJ that Ronnie met and wed the late LaVerne McCoy in 1978, sharing 4 beautiful girls. Ronnie was a proud provider for his family, working at Grossman Paper Company until retirement in 1995. Ronnie relocated with his late wife in 1999 to Dudley, North Carolina. Sadly, he became a widower in 2003.

Ronnie experienced another opportunity for love and marriage when he met and wed Katie Barr from New Jersey in 2005.

He experienced a lifetime of great joy from being a husband, and father, enjoying family gatherings, cooking, cruising the islands, playing R&B ‘oldies but goodies’ like Marvin Gaye’s “I’ve Got My Music,” and cheering for the NY Giants and Knicks as an unwavering fan.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his first wife LaVerne McCoy; 4 siblings Morris, Norwood, Mildred, and Annie McCoy.

Ronnie leaves to cherish his memories: his current wife Katie Barr-McCoy; 4 daughters Yurlonda McCants of Kissimmee, FL, Lakisha McCants (Pat) of LaGrange, NC, Shermeca McCrary (Rasool) of Goldsboro, and Inesha S. Trahan of Richlands, NC; 7 grandkids Yalliyaha McCants, Tyneesha Crutchfield, Deshaune White, Serenity McCants, India Ayala, Azariah Crutchfield, and Jaydin Ayala; 1 sister Angeline Oliver Grady; 1 stepson, Terrence Jones of Denver, CO; 3 brothers-in-law, Robert Barr (Catherine) of Ruther Glenn VA, Leroy Barr (Beth) of Florence SC, and Jesse Barr of Virginia Beach, VA; 5 sisters-in-law, Mary James (Thomas) of Augusta, GA, Bettie Williams (Bobby) of Roselle, NJ, Bessie Barr of Hemingway, SC, Shirley Barr of Hemingway, SC, and Linda Barr of Georgetown, SC; and a host of beloved family and friends.
