John Melvin Sutherland, Sr., 86, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at his home. Melvin was born in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late Robert and Laura Sutherland on February 8, 1937. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Judy Sutherland; son, Marty Sutherland; brothers, Tom Sutherland, David Sutherland, and Roy Sutherland; and sister, Nellie Gibson.

Melvin enjoyed collecting old cars, fishing in bass tournaments, and was a talented guitarist and vocalist. He enjoyed playing music and singing with his friends.

He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his constant canine companions, Prince and Junior.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Melvin’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Greenview Cemetery in Reidsville.

Melvin is survived by his children, Wendy Morton and husband, Tommy, Johnny Sutherland, Robin Sutherland and Angela Hinton and husband, Gary; and grandchildren, Dale Morton, Robert Morton, Shannon Morton, John Sutherland and wife, Sam Jimenez, Tara Sutherland, Elanie Hinton and Payton Hinton.
