January 28, 2024, 83, Goldsboro —
May 9, 1940 – January 28, 2024
Lila Lorraine Kearney Wells, 83, was received into the arms of her Savior in the late hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024. She was born to the late David Jonathan Kearney and Rilla Butts Kearney on May 9, 1940. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Wells; and siblings, Eliza Kearney Sykes and Richard Kearney.
Lorraine married the love of her life, Billy Ray Wells, and lived as a Proverbs 31 wife. Due to Billy Ray’s work, the two moved many times, but she willingly followed him from place to place. She lovingly cared for Billy Ray and was always available to tend to his needs.
With a smile that brightened the room and a love of laughter, Lorraine made friends easily everywhere she went. She was an exceptional conversationalist and could strike up a chat with anyone she met. Though she enjoyed working, Lorraine’s favorite quiet time was spent with the Hallmark Channel.
No matter where the couple lived, Lorraine made it a priority to find a church family and attend services regularly. She was always active in the congregation and looked forward to times of worship. Her time at Stony Creek Baptist Church was her last active membership, but she continued to worship at Spring Creek Baptist Church with her niece.
A service of love and remembrance will be held by the graveside at Snow Hill Cemetery on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Barry Williamson officiating. Family and friends will be greeted immediately following the service.
Lorraine is survived by her brother, Larry Kearney (Peggy); sister-in-law, Patricia Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
