Goldsboro’s boys basketball team advanced to the fourth round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A state playoffs with a 62-60 win over Hertford County on Tuesday evening.
The second-seeded Cougars improved to 26-3 and have won seven of their last eight games. Goldsboro hosts Fairmont (22-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday with a trip to the state semifinals on the line.
North Duplin fell to top-seeded and defending state champion Wilson Prep 92-47 on Tuesday night in the 1-A state playoffs. The Rebels finished their season with a record of 17-10.
Charles B. Aycock’s girls had their season come to a close with a 69-54 loss at Cape Fear on Tuesday evening in the 3-A state playoffs. The Golden Falcons, who were in the third round of the state playoffs for the first time since 2013, ended the season with a 17-13 record and won 13 of their final 15 games.
