LOS ANGELES — Regardless of how dire the situation may seem, or how much the odds are stacked against him, Goldsboro’s Tae Lewis continues to dig deep and find new ways to keep his journey on NBC’s “The Voice” alive.

Lewis was one of the final four contestants on Tuesday night’s live episode that had not received enough votes from viewers to advance to the semifinals.

In his last chance performance, Lewis sang Shenandoah’s “The Church on Cumberland Road,” and brought coaches Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper, Dan + Shay, and John Legend to their feet.

Viewers were given a few minutes to cast their votes to send one of the four remaining contestants to the semifinals. In the episode’s waning moments, host Carson Daly announced Lewis had received the most votes, and he was advancing to the semifinals.

As “The Voice,” went off the air, Lewis was seen falling to his knees in relief.

Tuesday night marked the second time Lewis avoided elimination, as he also stayed alive in the knockout round when Dan + Shay used their steal to keep Lewis on the show.

“The Voice,” airs Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
