June 1, 2024, 56, Mount Olive —
Gregory Jerome Strickland, better known as simply Greg Strickland, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home. He was 56. He was a resident of the Goldsboro area but was originally from the Seven Springs and Mount Olive areas.
Greg’s working career consisted of being a carpenter, a roofer, and basically doing anything that he set his mind to. However, upon the death of his stepfather, he took the reigns of Southern Wayne Plumbing and Repairs, which he diligently operated until illness caused him to retire.
Greg is survived by his wife, Shannon; a son, Alton Gregory “Al” Strickland of Mount Olive; three daughters, Lauren Jernigan with Barry Newhard, of Pennsylvania, Amber Jernigan of Goldsboro, and Harleigh Faulk of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Ethan and Liam Newhard, and Camila and Savannah Jernigan; his mother, Bettie Mae Barwick Keel of Mount Olive; father, George Junior Strickland of Four Oaks; a sister, Sandy S. Muse, and husband, Tracy, of Goldsboro; and brothers, Andy Strickland and wife, Lori, of Goldsboro, and Danny Keel and wife, Tammy, of Mount Olive. Also surviving is a special uncle, George “Mac” Barwick of Mount Olive; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Leonard Cox of Four Oaks; and a sister-in-law, Jennifer Mamiaro and husband, Arthur, of Princeton; other aunts and uncles, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas Keel; and step-mother, Lena Rose Joyner Strickland.
A service in which Greg’s life will be remembered will be Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation to follow with the family.
