Russell Wainwright Weaver, 79, died peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Mount Olive Center. Born in Wayne County on September 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Gertha and Clara Denning Weaver.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Weaver Ballard; and brothers, Howard Wright Weaver, Glenn Weaver, Ralph Weaver, Donald Weaver, and James Weaver.

Russell is survived by his sister, Doris Weaver; brothers, Carl Weaver, Roy Weaver, and Charles Weaver; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Russell enjoyed being the youngest in a family of nine boys and two girls. He gave and received abundant love from his siblings, as well as his parents and friends. Russell remained single but always was surrounded by his family and friends.

Russell graduated from Grantham High School and later UNC with a degree in business administration. In business, he held jobs as a retail store manager and as an insurance agent. He also worked in the poultry business. In his later years, he and his sister, Doris were caregivers for their ailing mother and older brother.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Russell was an active member of Selah Christian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

A graveside service to celebrate Russell’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Patrick Muston. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Selah Christian Church, 1332 Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
