On Jan. 13 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert and subsequent shooting in the 900 block of North Madison Avenue.
One 17-year-old male victim was located with apparent gunshot wounds and transported to UNC Health Wayne Emergency Department by EMS.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded.
During the course of this investigation, a suspect was developed in the juvenile male’s homicide.
On May 1, a warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for Kenyatta Feronte Sutton, 21, of Goldsboro. Sutton was taken into custody without incident in the 500 block of N. Berkeley Boulevard at approximately 6:15 p.m. on this date.
Sutton appeared before a magistrate for the warrant to be served and was left in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond pending a first appearance on May 2.
During the course of this continued investigation, an additional suspect was developed. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Samuel L. Thompson, 18, of Goldsboro.
On Thursday, at approximately 3 p.m., Thompson was taken into custody in the 900 block of Fairview Circle without incident.
The Goldsboro Police Department’s Emergency Response Team, Investigations Division, NCSHP, and Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Task Force assisted in the apprehension.
Thompson appeared before a magistrate for the warrant to be served and was left in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond pending a first appearance on June 14.
