Goldsboro Police Department to Undergo CALEA Assessment in July

As part of the re-accreditation process, a highly regarded recognition of public safety excellence, the City of Goldsboro Police Chief, Michael West, has announced the four-year on-site assessment from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

The assessor will arrive on July 21, and remain on-site through July 25.

The assessor will examine all aspects of the Goldsboro Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to verify that the Police Department meets the Commission’s standards.

The Goldsboro Police Department is required to comply with 461 very specific professional standards to achieve and maintain accreditation status.

Re-accreditation is a lengthy and challenging process.

Successful completion of the re-accreditation demonstrates that the Goldsboro Police Department’s policies, practices, and procedures remain consistent with the highest level of law enforcement professionalism.

Accreditation is a four-year cycle process, during which time the Police Department is required to maintain electronic files proving compliance.

The files are reviewed remotely each year, with an on-site assessment in the fourth year. The Goldsboro Police Department has been an accredited agency since 2020.

With the department’s participation in the CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation process, it greatly values input from the public.

As a part of this process, the public will be provided an opportunity to offer feedback via the CALEA Portal, which can be found by visiting cimrs2.calea.org/948.

The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding the Goldsboro Police Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status.

These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the Goldsboro Police Department’s pursuit of professional excellence.

It is important to know that CALEA is not an investigatory body, and subsequently, the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes.

Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
