David William Brodhead

David William Brodhead

June 26, 2024, 76, Snow Hill —

David William Brodhead, 76, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Amsterdam, New York on September 25, 1947, to the late Charles and Etta Belle Eason Mozingo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Brodhead.

Moving to La Grange as a young child, La Grange was David’s stomping grounds. As a young man, he was hard at work at Eason’s Grill. Upon graduation from high school, he spent 30 years in service with Textilease. Always wanting to be around people, he continued employment with Greene County Transportation for twelve years, serving as the early morning driver.

With David’s mother running a nursing home, he learned early on how to care for others. His concern for others was never more evident than when he served in transportation with Greene County. Taking many clients to their daily dialysis care, he got to know each one of them, and in him, they each found a generous friend. Always concerned about their comfort, he’d even wear shorts in the winter, knowing the heat would need to be extra warm on the bus for those riding with him.

With a quick wit and jovial disposition, David was always up to something. He loved a good joke and could light up any room with his large personality. Even in days of declining health, he kept smiling and going on. Loving to others and grateful for their care, he never complained about anything going on in his life.

Enjoying the simple pleasures of life, David spent much time in his yard. Cutting the grass and making sure everything looked just right, he was a stickler for a well-manicured lawn. With a great love for the beach, he spent nearly every weekend in earlier years in Pamlico, fishing alongside his mother. Though the years passed and trips to the beach became fewer, his love for fishing never departed.

A service of love and remembrance will be held by the graveside at Fairview Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, with Pastor Michael Parks officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

David is survived by his daughter, Dawn Murphy; son, Kelly Brodhead and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Taylar Everett and husband, Justin, Callie Brodhead, and Reid Brodhead; great-grandson, Jameson; brother, Michael Mozingo and wife, Eileen; and niece, Shannon Mozingo.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to those who cared for David during his declining health: Helen Stocks, Janice Jones, Jessie King, and Susie Hall. The family is deeply grateful to family friend, Lynn Harrison, who was devoted to the care of David and his family, staying day and night when necessary to provide comfort and care.
