Anna Travis Best, 73, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Anna was the much-beloved daughter of the late DeLeon Edward and Frances Boney Best. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell M. Lee.

A graduate of Chatham Hall in Chatham, Virginia, Anna continued her education at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Upon completion of her studies there, she moved to New York, NY, and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School.

While living in New York City, Anna worked with Tiffany and Company. She later began a career with the American Cancer Society. When she returned to her hometown of Goldsboro, she worked for several years with Wayne Pharmacy.

Proud of her family heritage, Anna was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in North Carolina-Wayne Committee. With a love for her church family and Lord, she was a resting elder at First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro.

At her request, a private burial was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the family plot in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Anna is survived by her special son, Alvin Best and family; step-grandchildren, Kevin Jordan and wife, Jennie and his son, Nathan Lee Jordan and wife, Miranda and their children, Leigh-Anna, Emily, and Carter; Russell’s nieces and nephews whom she loved much; first cousins, Thomas Ruffin Robinson, Betty Rand, Sion Boney, Betsy Boney Meade, Louise Boney McCoy, Martin Boney, and Billye Best; second cousins, Warren Brothers and Catherine Lassiter; as well as many other cousins she loved very much.

Anna was grateful for the devoted care she received from her caregivers, Mildred Cannon, Marie Sugg, and Diane Coley. She was equally thankful for the fortune of having numerous good friends whom she held close to her heart.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to Dr. Samer Kasbari and the staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center who provided wonderful care for Anna.
